Roger Heintz Youth Scholarship Fund

The Alberta Reined Cow Horse Association (ARCHA) is pleased to offer one of its youth members a $1000 Educational Scholarship in memory of Roger Heintz.

 

This scholarship will commemorate Roger’s significant contribution to the ARCHA, the cow horse industry in Alberta and his passion for educating and inspiring youth riders. Youth members are between the ages of 14 – 21 as of January 1 of the current year.

EDUCATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION INFORMATION:​​

  • The Alberta Reined Cow Horse Association (ARCHA) has one $500 scholarship available each year. This Scholarship is to assist the annual recipient with financial costs at the time of post secondary education at an accredited institution.

  • The annual scholarship money will be held in trust until proof of acceptance to an accredited post secondary institution can be provided to the ARCHA office, including a paid tuition receipt.

  • Scholarship selection is based upon involvement and volunteering within the ARCHA and the cow horse industry, scholastic aptitude, leadership, sportsmanship, as well as community and civic responsibility.

  • All applications are due on or before December 1 of the current year.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Current member of the Alberta Reined Cow Horse Association, in good standing as of the date of the competition for the scholarship.

  • Competed in a minimum of 3 ARCHA sanctioned events during the current show year.

  • Has been accepted into, or is enrolled in a post secondary institution within 3 years of high school graduation. 

  • Applicants must be between the ages of 14-21 as of January 1 of the current year. 

Completed applications with all attachments must be received by the ARCHA no later than November 3.  Applications received after this date will not be considered.

The recipient is chosen from among all applications received each year. Each application is reviewed by the ARCHA Board of Directors who will select the recipient. The scholarship recipient will be notified by January 1 or sooner, of his or her selection.

The scholarship recipient will be officially announced at the ARCHA Annual General Meeting held in the fall and listed on the ARCHA Website.

APPLICATIONS EVALUATED BASED UPON:

  • 40% based upon the applicant’s current and recent past involvement (including volunteering) with the ARCHA and the cow horse industry.

  • 50%   based upon current school grades.

  • 5%     based upon extracurricular equine activities.

  • 5%     based upon extracurricular school and community activities.

The overall quality of the applicant’s scholarship application including completeness, neatness and information may be considered in choosing a recipient.

A recipient of an ARCHA scholarship may apply for an additional scholarship in subsequent years. Unsuccessful applications are welcome to apply the following year.
